The municipal authority in Vilnius and FIMA worked together to build Lithuania’s first public CCTV. More than 112 stationary and remote control video cameras were set up in vulnerable areas and around tourist attractions. Some cameras were also sited in some of the most unsafe areas including underground passageways.
The cameras, which are vandal-proof, capture video and transmits it over a fibre-optic network to police stations. Officers are able to watch on 26 monitors while the video is recorded and stored in a special server room for one month.
The system helps the police to monitor public safety in Vilnius and rapidly respond to an event.
FIMA has committed to provide video as a service from the network of cameras for 10 years.
The system is a vital tool for everyday police work. The number of public order violations in the monitored areas has decreased significantly.
