  • Data centre infrastructure

FIMA installed advanced engineering solutions and set up a modern data centre at the new fire station at Vilnius Airport (VNO). This will enable smoother operation of the information systems, greater safety for both staff and passengers and will bring open up new development opportunities for the airport.

During the course of the project, FIMA specialists equipped a modern data centre, expanded the internal communications system, installed video surveillance and access control systems, computer networks and an automation system within the building.
The new fire station was built based on the airport’s long-term needs, with a special emphasis on the functioning of the building, security of the information systems and future development opportunities.

Prior to this project, VNO had to store key IT hardware and software (including flight registration and control, passenger registration and information, video surveillance and security, passenger flow control, as well as other information systems required for the operation of the airport) in several small server rooms. These have now been moved to a new data centre, designed and equipped by FIMA experts; the data centre meets the most advanced standards in the fields of data safety, energy efficiency and solution flexibility. The data centre features the latest cooling, power supply and monitoring systems.

Following the moving of the entire IT infrastructure to a single area, maintenance has become easier and more efficient. Access to the equipment is strictly controlled and guarantees the highest levels of data security at the airport. The data centre is based on a modular structure. This reduces the time taken and cost of troubleshooting and ensures cost-efficient operation. Furthermore, the modular solution also future proofs against further expansion of the data centre when the IT needs of the airport increase.

During the project, FIMA professionals further expanded and enhanced the system of internal dispatch communications at the airport. The system will serve the internal communications needs of both special services (security, customs, firefighting, etc.) and staff members.
