FIMA installed a traffic detection system on Dienvidu bridge – the largest and newest bridge in Riga. The system collects data on traffic intensity and helps analyse the traffic situation. The system also measures the speed and size of vehicles.
Infrared sensors to count vehicles were installed on the 500m bridge. One of the key benefits of the equipment is that it can be installed on traffic signs or other street furniture withoutdamaging the road surface. The system is capable of recording data accurately even during adverse weather conditions orin heavy or slowtraffic.
The entire traffic flow counting system is powered by the street light network at night and, during the day, by batteries that are charged up during the night, thus using smaller amounts of power.
