FIMA takes part in the introduction of Latvia’s first large-scale intelligent transportation system project

In 2018, FIMA specialists installed a complex of integrated traffic management and notification systems on a 190 km section of the Via Baltica road in Latvia. The system is designed to ensure smooth and safe traffic flows. Work was carried out on 24 sites on Road E67.

A new dedicated IT solution integrating three different systems was developed for the project. The system automatically regulates the speed limit on a stretch of the road and, where necessary, allows electronic signs to be controlled manually from a traffic management centre.

During the course of the project, FIMA specialists designed and installed intelligent transportation systems, which involved the installation of 30 variable message signs, the modernisation of eight existing weather stations and the installation of five new ones, the installation of a traffic flow analysis system and the development of software to control all of these systems. The project also upgraded the traffic light control and transport flow analysis systems which help to optimise traffic flows.

The project was implemented under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) cross-border cooperation programme, Interreg Central Baltic.
