FIMA installs new variable message signs to alert drivers

New variable message signs have been designed and installed by FIMA on major Lithuanian highways to alert drivers to deteriorating traffic conditions. Implemented by FIMA, the project was commissioned by the Lithuanian Road Administration.

FIMA has also installed road surface and weather sensors, traffic counters and classifiers, video cameras, data transmission networks and power supply for all devices on site.

These devices are integrated into a single speed control and warning system connected to the national traffic information system, whose data is available to the public at www.eismoinfo.lt. The intelligent speed control and warning system uses weather and traffic data to broadcast variable messages to drivers.

The new signs have now been installed in Kaunas, on Islandijos Road, beside the bridge across the Neris River, on the Kaunas western bypass before the bridge across the Nemunas River at MarvelÄ—.
