On the 19th of March, the winners of the two competitions - «Latvian construction award of 2014» and « Annual civil engineer in Latvia 2014» were clarified in ambitious and solemn ceremony with the construction industry. The 3rd place in nomination „New engineering project” got SIA FIMA with the project - construction of interactive speed signs at Smiltene.
The speed measuring displays were installed in autumn 2014 to enable the drivers entering the town to control and ascertain their driving speed.
The speed measuring displays were installed on the roads Smiltene-Valka (Valkas iela P24), Smiltene-Riga (Atmodas iela P27) and Smiltene-Valmiera (Daugavas iela P18). The speed measuring readings are informative and serve as a reminder for complying with the traffic regulations.
Ilze Sausā, Head of Smiltene Municipality Council Economic Activity Section: "Upon installing the speed measuring displays, we had not planned to participate in this kind of competition. The displays installed in Smiltenes Municipality were registered for the competition by the work performers, FIMA", therefore one should first and foremost thank them for the prize. There is interest in the installed speed measuring displays from other municipalities as well and, as far as we are aware, similar speed measuring devices will also be available in other municipalities. In the nomination "New Engineering project" 1st prize was won by the bulk cargo terminal Riga Bulk Terminal. Compared to the complexity of the construction that won 1st prize and its importance for the development of port infrastructure and logistics, we can be happy that we have been noticed."
More than 50 objects in nine nominations were registered for the competition «Latvian construction award of 2014». The competition is organised by Latvijas Būvniecība, Latvijas Arhitektūra; the patrons are MEPRD, RCCPD and SIHP.
