FIMA, the intelligent engineering solutions provider, was awarded a special innovation prize at this year's Merits to Business awards, which were arranged by the Lithuanian Ministry of Economy. The prize was provided by Irytas.lt, one of the country's most visited internet portals. FIMA was also among the three finalists for the Innovative Solutions Leader award.

The winner of the special prize awarded by the lrytas.lt news portal was selected through an open vote. FIMA received the greatest number of readers' votes for being one of the most innovative businesses in Lithuania. People had the opportunity to vote on its recent project – sophisticated safety solutions designed and installed in the first waste-to-energy plant in the Baltic States, Fortum Klaipėda.

"This is a very important evaluation for us as it proves that the whole community has noted and appreciated our job in upgrading the country's infrastructure and to bravely use innovative solutions. The award was also a surprise because we work in a highly-specialised sector, so the results of what we do are not always visible to the general public,” FIMA's general director, Gintaras Juknevičius, said as he received the prize.

This year 24 companies competed in the Merits to Business awards of the Ministry of Economy, and the three best entrants were selected from eight within each nomination by a special ministerial panel. In total, there were 100 applications.

Now in its ninth year, the Merits to Business event is a recognition by the Ministry of Economy to businesses for successful projects, impressive results and contributions to the development of the national economy. FIMA has already won the award in 2008 in the field of innovations within the "Innovative product launch" category for the introduction of a unique security system installed on a buoy at Būtingė oil terminal on the Baltic Sea.
