FIMA to install engineering systems in Minsk as part of Qatar investment project

A FIMA subsidiary will install engineering systems in one of the largest sports and entertainment complexes to be built in Minsk, Belarus. The building of the complex, which is in the centre of the city, is being funded by the Qatar Investment Fund.

The modern complex, which covers an area of more than 64,000 square metres, will house a 3,000-seat multifunctional sports arena managed by handball club Dinamo Minsk, a tennis club and a seven-storey, five-star Marriott hotel with a four-storey above-ground parking lot. Everything will be under one roof.

“It is the first time that we have undertaken such a large-scale project in Belarus. In terms of the amount of work, this project is the second largest project implemented by us in a foreign market. We are currently finalising the design of the 17 engineering systems that we will be installing in the complex”, said Vytautas Zinkevičius, FIMA’s Business Development Director.

FIMA’s subsidiary will be installing access control systems, video surveillance and public address systems, data transmission networks and parking lot management solutions in the sports and entertainment centre. The complex will also be equipped with all the equipment necessary for it to double as a conference centre.

“The unique feature of this project is that we are working with a big international team which includes specialists not only from Lithuania and Belarus, but also from the Arabian peninsula, India and the United Kingdom. We have to not only adjust to a different project management culture but also to comply with particularly high work performance norms and quality requirements applied by the Qatar investors and Marriott hotel managers. There is no doubt that the international project management experience acquired during this project will be very useful as we seek to expand further across the Baltic region”, said Mr Zinkevičius.

The contract work at the complex is being performed by Magnus Group, a Lithuanian-Belarusian joint venture. It will be one of the largest sports and entertainment venues in the whole region and will stand out for its architecture. When viewed from the air, the shape is reminiscent of the silhouette of a flying falcon.

FIMA, Lithuania’s leading implementer of electronic engineering solutions, entered the Belarusian market by setting up a subsidiary, FIMA BR, in 2010. Since then, the company has successfully participated in projects that require experience in the implementation of integrated engineering solutions.
