FIMA technology to protect one of the largest solar power plants in Lithuania

Specialists from the electronic engineering solutions company, FIMA, have installed an integrated security and video surveillance system at the 1MW solar power plant owned by Renerga in the Kretinga Region.

"The solar plant is sited over a large area, so physical security alone is not enough to prevent vandalism or theft. The new electronic security system will protect the very expensive panels and other equipment installed at the solar plant by stopping intruders and potential offenders before they have even begun to engage in criminal activity," said technical director of UAB Renerga, Mindaugas Juodis. He pointed out that the main threat to facilities like the Renerga plant comes from people intent on causing wanton criminal damage.

FIMA engineers assembled the perimeter security, video surveillance and alarm systems complete with a state-of-the-art security solution – a sensor cable – on the solar plant’s 3.5 hectare site. The cable, which runs along the entire length of the perimeter fence, provides the ultimate in precision when it comes to locating a break-in because it is accurate down to three metres.

"The solar plant’s new integrated security and video surveillance system will enable remote control of on-site floodlights and video cameras, the transmission of audio messages and a prompt response to potential break-ins," said FIMA's project manager Vytautas Lukšys, who supervised the project.

The security system installed by FIMA will be integrated with an overall security solution, also installed by FIMA, at the nearby wind turbine park operated by Renerga since 2010.
