Fima provides modern thermal imaging cameras to the Naval Force

Back to News

The company Fima installed thermal imaging cameras, which are among the most modern video surveillance equipment used in the army, for the Naval Force of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. This equipment will now enable to recognise objects trespassing the sea border even behind the horizon, at night or in bad weather conditions.

Thermal imaging cameras will provide more accurate surveillance data that will permit to react to attempts to trespass the national sea border more effectively.

The engineering solutions company Fima installed military thermal imaging cameras in the sea and coast surveillance posts. “We have offered equipment which is suitable for the changing Lithuanian weather. Thermal imaging cameras have been produced by the American manufacturer Flir – this company regularly fulfils orders of the US army, which speaks of the high quality and reliability of the equipment”, Giedrius Zaicevas, the Manager of the Security Solutions Department of the company Fima, says.

Thermal imaging cameras are devices that detect objects radiating thermal energy. According to Mr G. Zaicevas, thermal imaging cameras are exceptional because they can “see” very far, even tens of nautical miles away. They can detect ships that are even behind the horizon if any of their elements are visible, they can also detect low flying objects. The devices reliably perform their function during dark hours of day and night and in bad weather conditions.

Beside thermal imaging cameras, for surveillance of their coasts countries usually use radio locators and video cameras.
