JSC “Fima” will provide the Lithuanian Navy with modern surveillance equipment

The company “Fima”, the winner of the tender announced by the Ministry of National Defence, will supply and install the most modern army equipment for the Lithuanian Navy – thermovisors. In April, JSC “Fima” signed the contract with the Lithuanian Army on supply, installation and adaptation of 3 devices.

Thermovisor is a device for watching and identifying objects at night or in bad weather conditions.

The navy has never had such equipment before. According to Giedrius Zaicevas, Head of “Fima” Department of Security Solutions, the first 2 thermovisors will be delivered to the armed forces in October 2008 and the third one by October 2009. The new equipment will cost 1.6 million LTL.

The equipment was selected with regard to the geographical peculiarities of Lithuania and adapted to unfavourable Lithuanian weather conditions. “The Lithuanian Armed Forces will receive the modern equipment produced by the American company “Flir”. This company has been constantly fulfilling the orders of the USA Army, thus we can ensure high quality and reliability of the equipment,” says Giedrius Zaicevas, Head of “Fima” Department of Security Solutions.

The new thermovisors and the existing radio-locators will be integrated in the overall coast surveillance system. In this way, the state border security will be improved, e.g. the radio-location equipment detects an object in the sea and the signal is sent to the thermovisor that transmits the thorough image to the operator working at the Navy Surveillance Centre.
