Vilnius citizens’ Christmas greetings from the Cathedral Square

Back to News

During the winter holiday season, the citizens and guests of Vilnius will have a possibility to greet their friends, relatives or the entire nation from Vilnius Cathedral Square. “FIMA Christmas M@il” was launched here today, which makes it possible to record a 20-second video and audio greeting and send it to any desirable e-mail address.

“Christmas season is an excellent occasion to say thousands of thanks. Therefore, I would like to thank all the citizens of Vilnius for our wonderful city, our joint festivals and activities, thank you, Lithuanian people for your patience and fortitude! You are all welcome to Vilnius!” said the Mayor of Vilnius City Arturas Zuokas, making the first record of greetings for the Lithuanian nation during the opening ceremony of unconventional mail.

This exciting amusement was presented to the citizens by company “Fima”, the sponsor of “Christmas in the Capital 2006”. The experts of the company installed a special construction near the main Christmas tree of the city. The construction consists of information terminal and has a video camera and a microphone connected to it.

“It is a Christmas tradition to greet our friends over the phone, mail or e-mail. We decided to offer a more realistic possibility of greeting relatives, so that they could hear and see people who greet them. We expect over 3 thousand greetings to be sent by Vilnius citizens during the 4 weeks of the intense “m@il” service,” says Martynas Pargaliauskas, Head of Solutions Department of “Fima”.

The possibility to send a greeting over “FIMA Christmas M@il” will be free of charge. It can be used by any citizen until 3 January. For safety’s sake, the recording of greetings will take place only in the daytime, i.e. from 9 am to 11 pm.

Moreover, the inhabitants of the capital will have an opportunity to greet not only their friends but also the whole nation. People, willing to send a greeting to people all over Lithuania will just have to press a proper control key. Such greetings will be automatically sent to the organizers of Christmas events “Concept Events & Media” who will announce the best greetings on web site www.kaledos2006.lt. In this way, each Lithuanian who has a computer and Internet access will be able to hear Christmas greetings even outside the country.

“Visitors of the web site will be able not only to view the greetings but also vote for their favourite ones. The author of the best greeting will be awarded a mobile telephone Sony Ericsson K800i. Thus we expect a lot of creative greetings from Lithuanians,” says Tadas Rimdzius, Managing Director of “Concept Events & Media”.

The greeting for the nation was recorded not only by the Mayor of Vilnius but also by Audrius Bruzas, a well-known actor and master of improvisation, participant of the former TV programme “Pagauk kampa”. The greetings by A. Bruzas and A. Zuokas can be found on the web site www.kaledos2006.lt.

According to the Head of Solutions Department of “Fima”, the applied solution is neither technologically sophisticated nor especially modern but it is unique in its application. “We have implemented much more complicated solutions that make citizens’ lives more comfortable and secure. However, we decided that Christmas is the best time to make them even happier and friendlier. We hope the citizens will find our “m@il” an attractive and pleasant amusement,” said M. Pargaliauskas.

Company “Fima” has installed a video surveillance system in Vilnius, as well as passenger information and security systems at Vilnius Railway Station and Vilnius Airport. The company also contributes to modernizing traffic management system that will make driving in the capital more comfortable, quicker and cheaper.
