Working with its partner, SIA Belam-Riga, FIMA implemented a telecommunications modernisation project on a section of the IX D railway between Kaišiadorys and Kybartai.

Working with its partner, SIA Belam-Riga, FIMA implemented a telecommunications modernisation project on a section of the IX D railway between Kaišiadorys and Kybartai.

Altogether 48 fibre optic cables, stretching over 37km, were hung on poles and a further 24 cables, stretching over 130km, were buried underground on the section of the line between Kaišiadorysand Kybartai. Old analoguecommunication equipment was replaced with digital systems in 14 locations and enterprise and technological communicationsystems were upgraded giving the rail operator more reliable telecommunications.

Thirty-year-old analogue equipment was replaced with state-of-the-art fibre optic systemsto provide more efficient rail traffic control, simplify the workof operators and dispatchers and reduce the amount of time that trains sit idle. All the systems installedare compatible with existingequipment on sections of the railway between Vilnius, Kaišiadorys and Radviliškis, Kaišiadorys and Kybartai, Kazlų Rūda and Šeštokai, Radviliškis and Joniškis, Klaipėda and Pagėgiai and Vilnius, Kena and Valčiūnai.
