SIA FIMA implemented the most advanced systems on the line between Skrīveri and Krustpils on a new section of track and also renewed the systems on the existing one. Over the course of the project, FIMA was responsible for the designing and installation of traffic control, telecommunication, and power supply systems.

During the project, FIMA specialists installed a modern computerised rail traffic control system to control five stations and intermediate stations, as well as signalling controlling 17 level crossings. FIMA specialists also assembled nearly 300 modern signals and is nearing completion of the centralised control of 160 points. The modernised stations are controlled centrally from traffic control centres in Riga and Daugavpils.

As part of the project of installation of telecommunication systems and upgrading of traffic control and power supply systems, FIMA laid more than 600 km of communications, control and power supply cable. All of the new and upgraded traffic control systems have been equipped with power supplies following the construction of new transformer substations and the existing ones and the stringing of more than 50km of 10kV overhead cable lines. The project also included assembly of lighting systems in all stations, over platforms and at level crossings; the installation of electric point heating at each station; and the reconstruction of the railway contact line.

Following completion of the project, rail capacity for both freight and passenger services on the section between Skrīveri and Krustpils has increased while the likelihood of accidents has been reduced. The modernised section now complies with the most advanced EU railway safety and reliability standards.

Project exclusivity

The project was the first reconstruction of such a large railway contact line on Latvia’s railway network since the country regained independence.
