Third-year awards presented in FIMA-sponsored Smart City contest

Two student teams have been awarded in the Smart City contest for their contributions to sustainable regional development projects across Lithuania.

The infrastructure magazine Structum, with intelligent solutions provider FIMA as the main sponsor, presented the awards to students from Kaunas University of Technology and Klaipėda University at a ceremony at the Lithuanian National Library of Martynas Mažvydas on 15th June, which was attended by representatives of the government, municipalities, the construction industry as well as architecture and scientific communities.

FIMA has been involved in the Smart City contest for a third year as part of its mission to contribute to the renovation of public and private infrastructure nationwide. The project serves as a bridge between student teams and the participating Lithuanian municipalities in search of regional development solutions.

The Smart City initiative stands out because it encourages students to focus on more remote areas and generate ideas for their development and prosperity using smart solutions.  Meanwhile, the municipalities involved provide lists of areas in need of development and can then choose from among the designs provided by the students.

In 2017, 19 teams from five universities and one college submitted their designs for areas in Šiauliai, Ukmergė, Akmenė and Jonava.
