New Railway Station on the Lithuanian-Belorussian Border

Back to News

A new Stasylos (Salcininkai) railway control station will be open on the Lithuanian-Belorussian border. It is intended for passenger transport mostly and will not only facilitate the communication with the eastern neighbour but also ensure the security of the external EU borders.

The installation of Stasylos (Salcininkai) station will cost approximately 70 million LTL. The project will be implemented by the construction company “Skala”, the winner of public competition, together with partners electronic engineering solutions company “Fima” and enterprises “Vitras” and “Neiluva” by April 2009.

The new control station is being built to order of the Border Control Stations’ Authority and will ensure passport control of persons crossing the EU border and perform prior control of freight trains. The trains from Lithuania to the east will travel in two directions: through Kena station in the direction of Minsk and Moscow and through Stasylos in the direction of Ukraine.

The new station and the roads will be built and equipped by the general contractor construction company “Skala”. “Fima” will install microprocessor traffic control system, modernize and expand communication systems and implement security solutions worth 24.7 million LTL.

170 fixed cameras and 25 controlled cameras will be installed in 5.5-km-long railway track from Stasylos (Salcininkai) station to the state border. The transmitted image will be recorded by 28 digital video recorders twenty-four hours a day.

“Installation of Stasylos (Salcininkai) border station will be one of the largest security projects in Lithuania in terms of its scope and value. It is also significant in that Lithuania will enhance the security of the external EU border, which is one of the requirements of Schengen Agreement,” says Arturas Suliauskas, Head of “Fima” Project Implementation Department.

“Fima” has already implemented a similar but smaller security project in Kena, another railway control station at the Belorussian border. The company has won the competition announced by the State Border Guard Service and will install modern security and video surveillance systems in 12 more border control stations until autumn 2007.
